Dummer, longtime ag leader, dies

Michael Dummer, a longtime Wisconsin agricultural advocate, died July 30 following a lengthy bout with cancer.

Dummer, 64, lived on his family farm near Holmen . His love of agriculture extended beyond Dummer Family Farms. He served in various capacities with the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association, the Dairy Marketing Initiative, the National Farmers Organization and Equity Cooperative Livestock.

Dummer also stayed abreast of politics and policies affecting farmers by serving on the town of Holland board of supervisors and the Wisconsin Board of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection for nearly 20 years. He was first appointed to the DATCP Board in 1998 and served as chairman for seven years.

Dummer is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy, and three daughters — Amy, Beth and Tracy. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory.

A reception for Dummer will be held Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Church in Holmen, with a reception to follow at 3:30 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held Aug. 13  from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holland Town Hall, W7937 County Trunk MH, Holmen.
